Our logo was devised by our Queen, Odille.
As the most prominent features of the Tweed Valley is easily Mt Warning/Wollumbin, and as the mountain is always referred to by locals in the feminine. Also, the mountain is locally known as the Cloudcatcher, often wearing a mantle or cap of cloud, so she decided to make it a red hat instead!
The line image is created from one of Odille’s photographs which she dropped out to create the line art. Then the hat was pasted on ‘her’ tip, and the words Tweed Valley Red Hatters added. Later, the ladies of the chapter decided on a pelican for their mascot, (see the reasoning below) and a similar process was followed.
The pelican was photographed during our January river cruise, again dropped out into line art, rotated 45° and pasted onto the image, and the words The Pelicans were added.
And why do we have a pelican on our logo? Well, it’s our mascot nickname. The Australian Pelican’s scientific name is Pelecanus conspicillatus - close enough to conspicuous! Pelicans are big showy birds, found worldwide, opportunistic feeders enjoying a wide variety of foods, and highly mobile, searching out places where food is good!
Remember, the only essentials are red hats, purple clothes and a sense of fun!
